THE CAPTIOUS SOCIETY AND RAPE.

If the rapist is not enough in destroying the victims body completely, then the society is enough to rape their minds by blaming them their whole life if they survived the inhuman act”,M2.Rape cases  are escalating, 41 people  fall victim of sexual assault each day.The society which is supposed to be a shelter for those defiled becomes a ghost that taunts them on a daily basis.Criticizing and pointing fingers at them than at  the bad guys.

Rape or defilement or sexual assault is an unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness or deception.

This sinful act has no specified place, person or time.It may happen at home, where victims are defiled not by strangers but acquaintances and relatives. At school by teachers who are supposed to be the champions of morality are the devils incarnate who defile students in the name of grades or selfish reasons. When the victims are using routes which are bushy, the are molested by strangers who had the urge to relieve themselves of the days stress.During parties, where ‘friends’ plan to intoxicate a person and use them as a lab rat for their sexual pleasures.

Not forgetting bosses and managers who wear sheep’s clothing but are wolves inside, they molest their employees and might later on sack them for misconduct. Even some religious leaders participate in such acts, the purported servants of God. They invite  congregants to their homes for ‘fellowships’ or ‘prayers’ only to defile them. Include the military and online spaces as platforms for such animality.

Despite this, even after the damage is done and it is clear as day that the perpetrators are in the wrong, the society remains censorious.Burying its head in the sand like the ostrich. Claiming that the victim is the demon, the vamp and that they must have provoked the rapist in any way there is. Infirmities such as ‘she wears short dresses’ or ‘he acts too feminine this should teach him to be a man’ or ‘her tight dresses have served her right’ or ‘for how long would she have hid her nakedness, there is nothing special about it’ or ‘I knew she couldn’t keep her legs closed for long’.

The victims are left to themselves or their families to carry the after effects of rape. From psychological to physical, social and even economic activities. The trauma never leaving them once. Some who are not so resilient decide to take their own life following the worthlessness felt and the harsh criticism even though they are innocent.

To sum it up, the society should embrace victims of rape and champion against it. They should provide any form of support and create awareness on the matter, because the damage done by the rapist is nothing compared to the damage to be done by society through criticism and stigma.
